Hazardous Ground: Cluster Munitions and UXO in the Lao PDR
More cluster munitions were used in the Lao PDR than in any other country in the world. Nearly a third of them failed to explode and are still in the ground across the country. The Lao PDR was the second country to sign the Convention on Cluster Munitions on 3 December 2008, after the host country Norway, and ratified it four months later in March 2009.
This brochure highlights the current UXO situation as of 2009, relating to land clearance, risk education and victim assistance.
