“Accelerating MDG Achievement and Inclusive Development” 19th November 2013 National Convention Centre (NCC), Vientiane, Lao PDR
An exhibition featuring development cooperation activities between the Government of Lao PDR and its partners as well as a display of MDG-themed pictures was opened today at the National Convention Centre in Vientiane. The Development Exhibition was opened by H.E. Mr. Thongloun Sisoulith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Haoliang Xu, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific and H.E. Mr. Somdy Douangdy, Minister of Planning and Investment.
Vientiane, 15 November 2013- The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will continue to support the UXO sector in Lao PDR through a new project designed to further strengthen the Government’s capacity to tackle the persisting UXO problem in the country.

Vientiane 23 October 2013 – Climate resilient planning will be integrated into local decision making with a new US$4.98 million project aiming to encourage climate change adaptation in water resources and small scale rural infrastructure.
Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today announced that Canada will be providing more than US$1 million to support the unexploded ordnance (UXO) sector in Laos. The funds will be channeled through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Mines Advisory Group (MAG)
Vientiane 7 October 2013 – Development of a disaster management law, establishing a national disaster management information system and installing early warning systems in two districts will be some of the key outcomes of a new United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) -supported project launched today in Vientiane.
Switzerland extended its support to the UXO sector in Lao PDR today with an additional contribution of US$3.79 million. The funds will go towards strengthening the capacity of the National Regulatory Authority for UXO/Mine Action (NRA) as well as supporting the on-going clearance operations of UXO Lao, the two national institutions tackling the deadly legacy of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Lao PDR. The contribution will be channelled through the UXO Trust Fund, administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
“The report is testament to the UNDP´s contribution to improve people's lives and the increased importance that UNDP attributes to results reporting and solid analysis of evidence of how we support transformational change,” said Rebeca Grynspan, Under Secretary-General and UNDP Associate Administrator, who hosted the launch at the UN Headquarters.
With less than 1,000 days to go before the global deadline for reaching the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Lao PDR has a number of critical areas that still require special attention, as the country’s third MDG Report, being launched today, clearly shows.
