New UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Representative presents credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs

United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator (RC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative (RR), Mr. Minh Pham, presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr Thongloun Sisolith, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

Mr. Pham congratulated His Excellency on the Lao Government’s work and the country’s progress in development. The UN Resident Coordinator went on to pledge the continued support by the United Nations in achieving the 7th National Social Economic Development Plan (NSEDP). Mr. Pham emphasized the importance of accelerating the efforts to support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the Lao PDR. Furthermore, he reaffirmed his commitment towards strengthening UN system-wide coherence to deliver as one to better support the aid effectiveness agenda in the country.

“I am happy to be arriving in the Lao PDR as the UN RC and UNDP RR at this time because I believe Laos is at a cross road in development, where there are opportunities for the United Nations to contribute more towards realizing sustainable and human development for the people in this country,” said Mr Pham.

Mr. Pham served as the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Jamaica (2007- 2011). He was the Regional Manager of UNDP’s Regional Centre in Sri Lanka from 2004-2007. He also assumed the role of UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Maldives from 2002-2004
